How long do solar batteries last in terms of years?
Most home battery systems are built to last at least 10 years, with manufacturers typically offering warranties covering that period or a specific number of charge cycles to ensure strong capacity retention. In reality, a well-maintained lithium battery can often perform reliably for 10–15 years before showing notable decline. Usage patterns, depth of discharge, and temperature all influence longevity. SEQ Solar & Battery carefully selects trusted brands with proven durability and robust warranty support, ensuring your system delivers dependable performance for many years.
Blackout Power and Your Solar Battery
Yes, your battery can provide power during a blackout, but only if your system is set up for backup.
SEQ Solar & Battery's solar battery installations use hybrid inverters that can be configured to keep your home running during a grid outage. A properly installed battery system will automatically disconnect from the grid and switch to powering your essential circuits such as lights, the fridge, and Wi-Fi using the stored energy.
This backup power will last until the battery runs out or the main grid power is restored. We'll work with you to determine which of your critical appliances you want to keep running.
A crucial thing to keep in mind: During a prolonged outage, once the battery's energy is depleted, you will lose power until the sun can recharge the battery (if it's daytime) or the grid comes back online.
Battery Lifespan: Will it Last All Night?
We size your battery specifically to give it the best chance of lasting until morning.
To do this, our team analyzes your past energy usage (from sources like your electricity bills) to recommend a battery capacity that matches your average nighttime consumption. Our goal is for the battery to power your home all night, but results can vary.
Several factors affect whether the battery will maintain its charge until sunrise:
The total size of your solar system.
Seasonal sunlight (which affects how much the battery charges during the day).
How much energy you use at night.
We'll provide you with a clear estimate of how much of your nightly usage the battery can cover and explain any gap so you have clear expectations.
Australian Battery Rebate
Rebates in Queensland: Federal and State Support
I’m in Queensland. Can I claim both the Federal Battery Rebate and a state rebate?
You can absolutely claim the Federal Battery Rebate, known as the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which provides a significant discount on the upfront cost of your system.
However, the Queensland state government's primary battery incentive, the "Battery Booster" program, closed to applications on May 8, 2024.
Therefore, while the Federal scheme is national and designed to be stackable with state incentives, there is currently no active Queensland state-level battery rebate to claim alongside it.
The good news is that the Federal Battery Rebate provides substantial savings (an upfront discount of around 30%), and it does stack with the existing Federal Solar Rebate (Small-scale Technology Certificates or STCs) on any new panels you install at the same time.
For the most up-to-date financial advice, our team will look at all current incentives available to you in Queensland and apply the maximum eligible discount to your quote.
Home Solar and Battery
Choosing the Right Solar System Size
Choosing the Right Solar System Size
The ideal solar system size for your home is determined by three main factors: your energy usage, available roof space, and budget.
The SEQ Solar & Battery team takes a custom approach. We analyse your past electricity bills and usage patterns to recommend the optimal combination of:
Solar Panels (kW): The right amount to cover your average daytime consumption.
Battery Capacity (kWh): Enough storage to cover your average nighttime consumption.
Our primary goal is to size a system that is efficient and cost effective. We ensure the system is large enough to deliver significant bill savings, but not so big that you spend money on unnecessary panels or storage that will rarely be used.
